Library Associate for Access Services

About the Role:

You will work as part of a team to support the daily operations at Rolvaag Library and create a welcoming and stimulating space in which our campus community can gather and learn. You will participate in delivering a variety of student-facing services: helping users locate physical and electronic material, checking materials in and out, processing and organizing course reserves, and faciliating the delivery of resource sharing (Interlibrary Loan) materials from other libraries. Additionally, you will monitor and manage the library’s physical space, liaising with Facilities as needed, updating and improving signage, and ensuring a welcoming, inclusive environment. This position also plays a critical role in training and building supportive relationships with our team of 40-50 student employees in Rolvaag and Halvorson Music Library.

 

Ideally, you will bring experience in working with college students and an aptitude for organization and problem-solving. You will also possess the confidence and curiosity to explore new workflows and services, and are comfortable seeking out expertise from a network of colleagues and collaborators.

 

 

What You’ll Do: 

 

  • Provide daily direction, motivation, and support to a dynamic team of student workers.
  • Interact with students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors both in-person and online, providing assistance locating materials, using public equipment, searching online resources, and making referrals.
  • Collaborate with Library and IT colleagues at both Halvorson Music Library and Rolvaag Memorial Library to deliver a training program for public services student employees that progressively builds upon skills and knowledge over the course of their employment.
  • Create training tools for student employees consisting of written documentation, screencasts, and interactive tools.
  • Facilitate space planning and management efforts in Rolvaag Library.

 

Who You Are:

 

A successful candidate must have...

 

Associate’s degree and 1+ year of customer service

 

It will be helpful if you have...

 

Bachelor’s degree; 1+ years of experience working in a library or academic setting; 1+ years of experience with equipment, tools, and software used in media production and graphic design
