Education

The Department of Education at St. Olaf College invites applications for a full-time, two-year (renewable) position in teacher education at the level of Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Professor, to begin August 2022.

Primary Responsibilities:  This position has both faculty and administrative responsibilities. Fifty percent of the appointment includes teaching the Urban Education Practicum during the January interim term and also supervising student teachers during the academic year. The other 50% of the appointment involves serving as the Director of Field Experiences and Licensure for the teacher education program; responsibilities include facilitating placements for candidates’ early field experiences and student teaching, contributing to student teaching seminars, keeping abreast of state licensure standards, and licensing candidates.

Qualifications:  Required qualifications include a master’s degree in Education or related field (or a Ph.D. for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor), a minimum of five years of experience as a licensed classroom teacher, urban teaching experience, and excellent oral and written communication skills. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and will have the ability to develop rapport with a wide variety of stakeholders. Preferred qualifications include experience hosting student teachers and holding a teaching license in social studies, reading, or special education.

The Department is particularly interested in applicants who can and will advance the college’s goals for diversity, equity and inclusion. We request that in the letter of application, candidates address their potential to contribute to the St. Olaf community that maintains a diversity of people and perspectives as one of its core values. We strongly encourage applications from Black, Indigenous, and people of color and members of other underrepresented groups in accordance with our equity goals.

Applicants must submit materials online at https://stolaf.hiretouch.com/faculty-postings. A complete application includes:

  • Cover letter
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Graduate transcript (official or unofficial)
  • Statement of Teaching Philosophy
  • The contact information for three professional references who can speak to your qualifications and potential as a teacher (St. Olaf solicits letters directly after an initial round of screening)

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Questions about the position, department, or college may be directed to Elizabeth Leer, Department Chair, at leere@stolaf.edu. Applicants who need assistance with the online application process should call 507-786-3356.
