Assistant / Associate Director of Broadcast Engineering

This position is the backbone of an innovative, creative, and motivated team, responsible for recording, streaming, and providing other technical support for a massive array of different events at St. Olaf College. What You’ll Do: 

 

The right candidate will possess the ability to support, maintain, design, and install Broadcast Audio / Visual infrastructure. You will be proficient in deployment and management of cloud services related to live and on demand streaming and distribution, and will have skills and expertise in website and user interface development. You will support departmental activities in audio and video recording, broadcast, and production engineering, and will work collaboratively to ensure a smooth operation of the overall department.

 

Who You Are:

 

You’re a great fit if you have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of experience in design, installation and maintenance of facility-scale audio and video routing, networking and communications systems
  • 3+ years of experience in digital audio field recording, especially acoustic recording of concerts and events featuring classical music
  • 3+ years of experience in live video production
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet St. Olaf College driver authorization criteria with a satisfactory driving record.

It will be helpful if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in audio/video production or related field
  • SBE engineering-level certification
  • Cisco CCNA or SBE networking certification

You’ll need to bring the following skills:

  • Expert knowledge of video workflow, equipment and tools including cameras, switchers, recorders, projection systems, transport devices, routers
  • Expert ability to install, troubleshoot and repair broadcast and network cabling
  • Expert knowledge of digital audio workstations, multi-track production, recording and broadcast consoles, audio storage systems, and sound reinforcement systems
  • Advanced knowledge of signal processing equipment including equalizers, compressors, limiters, AD/DA converters and outboard mic pre-amps
  • Advanced knowledge of ProTools, Premiere, or similar audio and video editing software
  • Advanced knowledge of video compression and delivery encoding/transcoding
  • Advanced knowledge of IP networking systems, protocols and equipment
  • Advanced knowledge of cloud-based tools including AWS Media Services
  • Knowledge of classical music broadcast production, recording techniques, microphone selection and application
  • Ability to multi-task by managing competing priorities and items concurrently with attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively under deadline-related pressure

work required, including but not limited to Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving
weekends; travel up to 5% including local and national travel in support of events and
attendance at relevant industry conferences, seminars, and training.
Constant on-call support availability, 7am – 11pm, 7 days/week.
