About the Role: 

 

St. Olaf College is a private, residential, liberal arts college with 3,100 students in Northfield, Minnesota. Northfield, a vibrant and engaged community, is located 45 minutes south of the Twin Cities. St. Olaf provides an intensely residential experience in its twelve residence halls. This live-on, 12-month position oversees two areas and provides robust opportunities for professional growth.

What You’ll Do: 

 

The Division of Student Life believes in strong support for its students and encouragement of community-mindedness. As an Area Coordinator at St. Olaf, no two days are the same. The position offers the ability to work closely with motivated, involved, and passionate Oles. A typical week includes supervising staff, advising Community Councils, promoting student programming and wellness, and direct engagement with students. Area Coordinators work regularly with other departments, especially with the Dean of Students Office.

Area Coordinators serve on department committees that aid many areas of student development. Area Coordinators will work specifically in areas such as diversity, equity, and inclusion; student staff training; leadership development; student staff selection; and other developmental areas.

 

 

Who You Are:

 

You’re a great fit if you have:

A bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of relevant residence life live-in or programming experience.

 

A helpful background includes:

A master’s degree in student personnel or related field, 1+ year of professional/graduate live-in experience.

 

Skills and attributes we’d like for you to have:

  • Advising and supervising student groups
  • Navigating complex interpersonal environments
  • Ability and willingness to support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community
  • Ability to establish a rapport and work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, and administration
