Part-Time Weekend Recreation Facility Supervisor - Saturday Nights 5p-11p

About the Role: 

 

At St. Olaf, you will be working alongside a dedicated team that brings their passion and pride to everything that they do.  Your job will be to work with the Director of Recreation to provide outstanding supervision to the Tostrud/Skoglund recreation facilities, while helping to create a welcoming and safe environment for patrons to exercise. This is a regular, ongoing position from mid- August through May plus a few dates in the summer.  You must be able to work every other Saturday evening from 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm or until close.  Covering/subbing for other weekend supervisor shifts varies but is expected.

 

What You’ll Do: 

 

  • Provide weekend supervision of the Tostrud/Skoglund facilities including greeting and assisting facility patrons.
  • Be aware of emergency action plans and make decisions accordingly, deal with plumbing emergencies and other leaking issues.
  • Handle conflict and/or confrontations between student staff and facility users.
  • Provide oversight of exercise equipment in the building.
  • Supervise enforcement of all building policies and adherence to the membership policies.
  • Supervise student workers, note arrival times for their shifts and that all positions within the building are covered. If a station is vacant, you will fill the position.
  • Make sure that the student worker is fulfilling the expectations of the job.
  • Help train workers for the job specifications – cleaning fitness/weight room, laundry, front desk policies.
  • Make building rounds every 30 minutes touching base with the student workers.
  • When making rounds, secure all external doors, store loose equipment, pick up lost and found items, and return towels to the fitness/weight rooms.
  • Make sure that the laundry is getting done, specifically the towels for the fitness/weight rooms. You may need to help by doing it yourself.
  • Help users with equipment needs such as raising/lowering nets, curtains, baskets, lights, etc.
  • Help with set up and take down of events in building when necessary.  
  • Assist in the development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures
  • Provide feedback and evaluation of student employees in Recreation
  • Attend meetings
  • Assist with the student work tracking system (green cards) and online sub request system

 

Who You Are:

 

What you need:

 

High school diploma or equivalent

1+ year of supervisory experience, or relevant work experience with young adults (middle school, high school or college students)

 

Preferred:

 

Bachelor degree in Recreation, Management, or related field

CPR, AED and First Aid certification

3+ years of experience supervising high school and/or college aged workers

Supervisory experience in fitness/recreation setting

  • Ability to have an outgoing and engaging personality
  • Skill in computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet and database software, and web applications including email
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision
  • Ability and willingness to support, respect and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community including faculty, staff, students and constituents
